Voluntary civil liability insurance: what is it and why is it needed?

On average, about 409 accidents occur on the roads of Ukraine every day, or one every 3-4 minutes. Just think, while you read the previous sentence, somewhere someone was out of luck. Therefore, a conscientious motorist always uses a seat belt while driving, conducts a technical inspection of his vehicle in a timely manner and uses the services of an insurance company. Insurance is mandatory at the legislative level, but OSAGO (compulsory car insurance) does not give a full guarantee that you will be compensated for the cost of repairing an expensive foreign car damaged through your fault. In such cases, the decisive role is played by the availability of a voluntary civil liability insurance policy or VGO.

- What is the essence of DGO?

- DGO is a voluntary civil liability insurance, which makes it possible for an affordable price to increase the limit of insurance payments in the event of an accident several times, if a regular policy does not fully cover the amount of damage.

- What damage will be covered by "car insurance"?

- According to the Law of Ukraine on a standard MTPL policy for one driver, payments to victims, regardless of their number, cannot exceed UAH 500,000 for car repairs and UAH 200,000 for compensation for damage to life and health. Accordingly, everything in excess of these amounts will have to be paid out of your own pocket. But if you have a VCO policy, the amount of compensation increases and can reach from UAH 50,000 to UAH 1,000,000.

- How much does the DGO cost?

- The final cost of a voluntary civil liability policy is formed taking into account several factors:

  • The limit of insurance payments (the client chooses on his own).
  • Vehicle parameters (engine power, year of manufacture, registration data, etc.).
  • Additional services specified in the contract.
  • The validity period of the DGO policy.

In general, you will have to pay much less for DGO than for OSAGO, even with various additions. For only 150-280 UAH per year, you can increase your insurance limit to 100,000 UAH, and for 1,000 UAH per year - up to the maximum possible UAH 1,000,000. The contract is drawn up for one year, then the policy must be renewed.

- What is the easiest way to get a DGO?

- Easier, of course, via the Internet. The service https://hotline.finance/osago contains the most relevant offers from the leading insurance companies in Ukraine. It remains only to carefully study them and choose the most profitable.

Compulsory civil liability insurance is drawn up simultaneously with OSAGO. The insurers supporting this option have a note on the banner "Additional coverage". Otherwise, at the fourth stage, the policyholder will be offered to issue a DGO at the VUSO partner insurance company. The procedure is limited to one click, but this way you get two insurance policies from two companies. You can pay online with a bank card and, voila - additional peace of mind and confidence while driving on the roads are provided.

- And what about those who already have OSAGO?

- DGO can be purchased separately from your own or another insurance company. But the validity period of such a policy is tied to the validity period of the "autocivil", therefore it will be shorter. At https://hotline.finance/osago, you can find out which companies have this option, see the conditions and issue a policy online by going to the official website.

- How can I get an insurance payment under the VCO?

- With OSAGO and DGO policies of one insurance company, you must contact the insurance company no later than three working days from the moment of the accident and provide the following documents:

  • Accident statement.
  • Europrotocol (if available).
  • Passport.
  • INN.
  • Driver's license.
  • Vehicle registration documents.
  • Damage compensation claim.

If Avtotsivilka and DGO are registered in different companies, you will have to apply to two structures, which, of course, is inconvenient, but better than paying for the repair of someone else's car out of your own pocket. And remember, an accident does not have a limit on the amount of damage, and absolutely any driver has a guarantee that he will not get into it. Therefore, do not save on DGO, expanding the financial boundaries of insurance for your own peace of mind while driving.
